Explore in Colour!

So far we have looked at colour using the brush and also pencils. There are many other ways one can use colour in art and a painting doesn’t have to be done with paints only. This is where you experiment and come up with new and innovative ideas to create art. I’m going to start you off with just a few then I bid you bon chance with other ways. Feel free to share your discoveries with the rest of the class.

1. Collage. A collage is a painting that is done using, traditionally, cut paper which is pasted unto the work. it was used by Pablo Picasso (yes there’s that name again) and Georges Braque. Now a collage doesn’t have to be limited to paper. You can use seeds, twigs, cloth any other suitable materials.

Collage work can be seen here

2. Mixed Media. To make things interesting: create texture and interest, you can use other materials in you artwork. We just looked at collage which is a form of mixed media but what about adding glue to your paint or sand? What about inks or gold leaf or even mixing printing ink with oils? The possibilities are endless.

Check out examples of mixed media here .

The challenge now is for you to experiment. Start off small with maybe just paper and paint. then, move on to other techniques such as putting down layers of crayons or oil pastels before you apply paints. These are just a few ideas. Remember, the beauty of art is that it allows you the artist room to explore and grow. So happy adventures in colour!

Be blessed.

Activity:

I have listed two methods of  creating works of art. can you listb others? I’ll start you off with the two we talked about. Remember, it doesn’t have to be about paints. If you think of others leave your response in the comments section and I’ll add them on.

1.Painting

2. Collage

3. Mixed media

Welcome Students

As we embark on this new phase in our learning, I look forward to the many interesting things we can learn and explore         with ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). The world  of art has now been opened up to you as never before. Enjoy it, respect it for its potential dangers but also for its potential adventures in learning.

Have fun!
